In the South of France, this area produces large quantities of wine. Some of the best regions like Corbieres and the Cotes du Roussillon produce much smaller yields and focus on quality rather than quantity. This is also a region where organically grown grapes are quite possible due to the favorable weather conditions.
This is another single vineyard, domaine produced wine from the Bila Haut Estate. One of the single "crus" of Roussillon Village called Lesquerde, this terroir always results in a more mineral driven wine with very unique flavors and aromas. The production is quite small and less that 1,000 cases are imported into the US.

Michel Chapoutier has built a world wide reputation in the Rhone but his vineyard and winery holdings are not confined to that area. He also has a great estate further south in the jewel of the Languedoc known as the Cote du Roussillon. Here, at Domaine de Bila Haut, old vines of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan are carefully cultivated using sustainable and biodynamic growing methods. In the hills of the Agly Valley, the Cote du Roussillon Villages area make truly unique and superb red blends.
At lower elevations, a unique blended white wine is also produced. Here Macabeo, Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris are carefully grown and vinified to produce an elegant, crisp, and mineral laden wine with lingering notes of citrus, melon and saline flavors.
