In the South of France, this area produces large quantities of wine. Some of the best regions like Corbieres and the Cotes du Roussillon produce much smaller yields and focus on quality rather than quantity. This is also a region where organically grown grapes are quite possible due to the favorable weather conditions.
This is a dessert wine made in the South of France where they call it "Vin Doux Naturel". It is late harvested grenache that is fortified and aged in oak and in vat. The current release is 2001 and displays wonderful, dense, rich flavors and maturity. Try it with hard cheeses or better yet, with Chocolate.

Michel Chapoutier has built a world wide reputation in the Rhone but his vineyard and winery holdings are not confined to that area. He also has a great estate further south in the jewel of the Languedoc known as the Cote du Roussillon. Here, at Domaine de Bila Haut, old vines of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan are carefully cultivated using sustainable and biodynamic growing methods. In the hills of the Agly Valley, the Cote du Roussillon Villages area make truly unique and superb red blends.
At lower elevations, a unique blended white wine is also produced. Here Macabeo, Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris are carefully grown and vinified to produce an elegant, crisp, and mineral laden wine with lingering notes of citrus, melon and saline flavors.
