This region of the United States offers ideal growing conditions to grow and produce world class Pinot Noir. We have recently added a tiny estate that specializes in Artisanal quality wines made in the pursuit of the highest quality and expression of the terroir.
This small estate producer of top notch Pinot Noir is located in what most believe to be the best area for the varietal in the Williamette Valley, the Eola Amity AVA. Here John Zelko carefully nurtures five different clones of Pinot Noir. The winemaking is "classic" and he uses native wild yeasts for fermentation and also employs whole cluster fermentation for some of the parcels. The result is a fabulous example of Oregon Pinot Noir made in an artisanal way. Patience in the cellar is rewarded as the wines benefit from the additional bottle aging,... if you can wait!

The Z’ivo Winery is owned and operated by John Zelko and his wife Katherine. They settled in Oregon in 1983 and quickly took an interest in grape growing and winemaking as a hobby. While helping others tend vines and harvest grapes, it was immediately evident that in order to make good wines, you needed to have good grapes. Twenty-five years ago, we started tasting and understanding Pinot Noir in the Willamette valley. Our preferences gravitated to the wines from the Eola Hills, a 16 mile North-South set of low rolling hills starting in Salem and ending up near Amity. The shallow mix of sedimentary and volcanic soils warm the earth and push the fruit flavors past red raspberry and red cherry into black cherry, blackberry and even blue plum accompanied with layers of spice, mushroom and earth.
